Scripture
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
— Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
Reflection
Sometimes the hardest step is not the tenth step.
It is the next one.
The next conversation.
The next decision.
The next appointment.
The next season.
The next act of obedience.
The next chapter God is calling us to enter.
Often we imagine courage as something dramatic.
Standing before crowds.
Facing giant obstacles.
Doing extraordinary things.
But most courage is found in ordinary moments.
A mother choosing to trust God with her child.
A woman taking a step of faith after disappointment.
A believer saying yes to God's calling despite uncertainty.
A wounded heart choosing to love again.
Courage is not the absence of fear.
Courage is moving forward while trusting that God walks beside you.
There are moments when we wish God would show us the entire road ahead.
But He often gives us only enough light for the next step.
Why?
Because faith grows one step at a time.
Dependence grows one step at a time.
Trust grows one step at a time.
God is rarely asking us to figure out the entire journey.
He is usually asking us to trust Him with the next step.
Bible Story Reflection
When God called Joshua to lead Israel after the death of Moses, Joshua faced an overwhelming assignment.
The people were looking to him.
The future was uncertain.
The responsibility was enormous.
Yet God did not give Joshua a detailed map of every challenge ahead.
Instead, God gave him a promise:
"I will be with you."
That promise became Joshua's courage.
Not certainty.
Not control.
Not guarantees of an easy road.
The presence of God.
The same promise belongs to us today.
The God who stood with Joshua stands with you.
The God who guided Joshua guides you.
The God who strengthened Joshua strengthens you.
Prayer
Father,
Today I stand before You with questions, concerns, and uncertainties about the road ahead.
There are decisions I need to make.
Conversations I need to have.
Challenges I need to face.
Steps of faith I need to take.
And if I am honest, Lord, sometimes I feel afraid.
I wish I could see the entire path.
I wish I knew exactly how everything would unfold.
But You have not asked me to understand everything.
You have asked me to trust You.
So today, I choose faith over fear.
I choose obedience over hesitation.
I choose courage over comfort.
Lord, remind me that courage does not come from my own strength.
It comes from Your presence.
Just as You were with Joshua, be with me.
Just as You guided Your people through the wilderness, guide me.
Just as You strengthened those who came before me, strengthen me.
When fear whispers that I am not enough, remind me that You are.
When uncertainty tries to stop me, remind me that You go before me.
When I feel weak, fill me with Your strength.
Help me trust You with the next step, even if I cannot see the entire journey.
Today I place my future, my fears, and my decisions into Your hands.
Lead me forward.
One step at a time.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
