Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Holy Spirit Insight

One of the greatest battles we face is not finding more time.

It is deciding what deserves first place.

Every day, our hearts are pulled in different directions.

Family needs us.

Friends call.

Work demands our attention.

Ministry opportunities arise.

Messages wait to be answered.

Appointments fill our calendars.

None of these things are wrong.

Many of them are beautiful gifts from God.

But even good things can quietly replace the best thing.

Jesus never told us to fit Him somewhere into our busy lives.

He simply said,

"Seek first the Kingdom of God."

The word first changes everything.

It is not merely about time management.

It is about heart management.

Whatever comes first will eventually shape everything else.

When God becomes our first priority, peace begins to replace pressure.

Wisdom begins to replace confusion.

Purpose begins to replace performance.

Our hearts become anchored because they are resting in the One who never changes.

Bible Story Reflection

In Luke 10, two sisters welcomed Jesus into their home.

Martha expressed her love through serving.

Mary expressed her love by sitting quietly at His feet.

Both loved Jesus.

But only one chose what Jesus called "the better part."

Martha allowed responsibility to pull her away from His presence.

Mary allowed His presence to shape everything else.

Jesus wasn't correcting Martha's servant heart.

He was gently restoring her priorities.

Sometimes the greatest act of worship is simply choosing His presence before our performance.

Rachel's Journey

For many years, I believed that being faithful meant saying "yes" to almost everything.

If someone needed prayer, I wanted to be there.

If someone needed help, I wanted to help.

If family needed me, I rearranged my schedule.

If ministry called, I gave everything I had.

My heart was sincere.

But slowly, I discovered something.

I was becoming busy serving God while quietly neglecting time with God.

There were mornings when I reached for my phone before I reached for my Bible.

Days when my schedule became so full that my quiet time felt rushed.

I wasn't drifting because I loved God less.

I was drifting because I allowed urgency to become louder than intimacy.

The Holy Spirit lovingly began teaching me that He was not asking me to do more.

He was asking me to come closer.

To seek Him before serving Him.

To sit before standing.

To listen before leading.

That gentle invitation changed everything.

Now, whenever I feel overwhelmed, I stop and ask,

"Lord, has my schedule become full while my heart has become empty?"

Every time I return to His presence first, He faithfully reorders everything else.

Not always my calendar.

But always my heart.

Heart Change Questions

• What has quietly become more important than my time with God?


• Have I confused being busy with being faithful?


• Where is the Holy Spirit inviting me to slow down?


• What would change if I truly sought God's Kingdom first every day?

Action Steps

1. Begin with One Question

Tomorrow morning, before your day begins, ask:

"Lord, what matters most to You today?"

2. Protect What Is Sacred

Set aside time this week that belongs only to you and the Lord.

Treat it as your most important appointment.

3. Let One Thing Go

Prayerfully release one unnecessary commitment that is stealing your peace and your time with God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding me that my greatest need is not a better schedule but a heart that seeks You first.

Forgive me for the times I have allowed good things to take the place that belongs only to You.

When life becomes busy, draw me back to Your presence.

When responsibilities multiply, remind me that You never asked me to carry them without first sitting at Your feet.

Reorder my priorities.

Teach me to value intimacy above activity.

Presence above performance.

Faithfulness above busyness.

May my family see that You come first.

May my leadership reflect that You come first.

May my life quietly declare that You are worthy of first place.

Lead me to live each day with a heart fully surrendered to You.
