Holy Spirit Insight
There was a time when fear had a stronger voice in my life than faith.
Fear spoke first.
Fear decided first.
Fear controlled first.
Fear followed me into my relationships.
Fear followed me into my decisions.
Fear followed me into my prayers.
Fear followed me into my future.
The strange thing about fear is that it does not always look like fear.
Sometimes it looks like worry.
Sometimes it looks like overthinking.
Sometimes it looks like control.
Sometimes it looks like constantly preparing for the worst.
Sometimes it looks like never fully relaxing because you are waiting for something bad to happen.
Fear became familiar to me because I had lived with it for so long.
When fear becomes familiar, it can begin to feel normal.
But God never intended His children to be led by fear.
He intended us to be led by faith.
Fear Was My Companion
As a young girl growing up in abuse, fear became part of everyday life.
Fear of what might happen next.
Fear of anger.
Fear of rejection.
Fear of disappointment.
Fear of not being enough.
Fear of being hurt again.
There were seasons when fear sat beside me like an unwanted companion.
Even after I became a believer, I still struggled.
I loved Jesus.
I believed His Word.
I attended church.
I prayed faithfully.
Yet fear still found ways to creep into my thoughts.
I thought faith meant I should never feel afraid.
What I eventually learned was this:
Faith is not the absence of fear.
Faith is choosing God when fear shows up.
Bible Story Reflection
Joshua's Impossible Assignment
Imagine being Joshua.
Moses was gone.
The great leader of Israel was no longer standing beside him.
Now God was asking Joshua to lead millions of people into the Promised Land.
Can you imagine the fear?
The pressure?
The uncertainty?
Yet God kept repeating the same message:
"Be strong and courageous."
Not once.
Not twice.
Multiple times.
Why?
Because courage is not needed when there is no fear.
Courage is needed when fear is present.
God was not denying Joshua's fears.
He was teaching him not to let fear become his leader.
And that lesson changed everything.
Reflection
Over the years, something began to change in me.
Not overnight.
Not through one prayer.
Not through one sermon.
But through years of walking with God.
Years of seeing His faithfulness.
Years of watching Him answer prayers.
Years of seeing Him provide.
Years of watching Him protect me.
Years of experiencing His presence in the middle of difficult seasons.
Slowly, faith became stronger.
Not because life became easier.
But because I knew God better.
The more I knew Him, the less power fear had over me.
The more I trusted Him, the quieter fear became.
The more I experienced His faithfulness, the harder it became to believe fear's lies.
Psalm 91 Became Personal
Recently, as I reflected on Psalm 91, I found myself resting in God's promises once again.
Years ago, fear would have kept me awake.
I would have replayed every problem.
Analyzed every possibility.
Imagined every worst-case scenario.
Fear would have stolen my peace.
But now, something has changed.
God's Word has become more real than my fears.
His promises have become stronger than my worries.
His presence has become greater than my anxiety.
I rested peacefully not because all my problems disappeared.
I rested peacefully because I knew God was present.
And when God is present, fear loses its authority.
David and Goliath
Everyone remembers Goliath.
But what made David different was not that he lacked fear.
It was that he remembered God's faithfulness.
While everyone else saw a giant, David saw an opportunity for God to move.
While everyone else focused on the problem, David focused on God's power.
David's faith became stronger than the fear surrounding him.
And that is exactly what God wants to do in us.
Not remove every giant.
But help us trust the God who is bigger than every giant.
What Faith Really Looks Like
Faith is not pretending everything is okay.
Faith is trusting God when everything is not okay.
Faith is not having all the answers.
Faith is knowing Who holds the answers.
Faith is not the absence of uncertainty.
Faith is confidence in God's character despite uncertainty.
Faith says:
"I don't know what tomorrow holds, but I know the One who holds tomorrow."
And that changes everything.
Heart Change Questions
• What fear has been speaking the loudest in my life lately?
• How has God already proven Himself faithful in similar situations?
• Am I focusing more on the size of the problem or the greatness of God?
• What would it look like for faith to lead me instead of fear?
Action Steps
1. Name Your Fear
Write down the fear that keeps returning.
Be honest.
Bring it into God's presence.
2. Remember His Faithfulness
Write down three times God carried you through situations you thought you would not survive.
3. Speak Truth
Whenever fear rises today, declare:
"My faith is growing stronger because my God is faithful."
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for never giving up on me while You teach me to trust.
Thank You for every season where You proved Yourself faithful.
Thank You for carrying me through fear, uncertainty, and hardship.
Forgive me for the times I allow fear to lead my thoughts and decisions.
Help me remember who You are.
Help me trust Your promises.
Help me focus on Your faithfulness rather than my fears.
And when fear whispers lies, remind me that Your Spirit lives within me.
The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is alive in me.
Because of You, fear does not have the final word.
You do.
